HOCKEY FOR ALL ABILITIES – DONALD

A four-week Undercover Hockey for All Abilities program at Donald High School provided an exciting opportunity for people of all abilities to get active, learn new skills, have fun and build social connections.
A huge thank you to the students and staff at Donald High School, who played an important role in planning and facilitating each session. Their enthusiasm, commitment and willingness to work alongside participants helped make the program such a success.
Each week, participants and staff from McCallum Day Services – St Arnaud, Woodbine – Warracknabeal, along with other community members, joined in the modified hockey activities.
The sessions included fun and inclusive activities such as guiding the ball with a hockey stick and seeing who could collect the most balls from each hoop. Using plastic hockey sticks and tennis balls provided a safe and accessible way for everyone to get involved.
At the final session, Rhonda Allan from Mallee Sports Assembly presented the Donald High School students with a Certificate of Appreciation, recognising their valuable contribution throughout the four-week program.
Beyond physical activity and skill development, the program created opportunities for new friendships, social connections and shared experiences. It also gave Donald High School students valuable hands-on experience working alongside people of all abilities, while building their understanding and confidence in inclusive sport and recreation.
Programs like this show what schools, organisations, volunteers, and community members can achieve when they work together to create welcoming opportunities for everyone to participate. The program is delivered through the Together More Active Program funded by Sport and Recreation Victoria, which supports inclusive sport and recreation opportunities for people of all abilities. Congratulations, Donald – another successful All Abilities program.
