Kaylene Geddes has been selected as the 2024 Community Bank Merbein & District 97.9 Triple M Northern Mallee Sports Star of the Year for the month of February. Kaylene was nominated by the Red Cliffs Golf Club

Kaylene recently emerged victorious at the 2024 Australian Deaf Games in Lake Macquarie. The golf event was held at the Waratah Golf Club in Argeton in warm conditions, and Kaylene placed first in the team ambrose event where she was representing Victoria, and the ladies gross which was an individual event. She also placed first in the ladies net, but was ineligible due to winning the gross.

Her victory was made all the more impressive given she overcame the last minute hurdle of not being able to wear a cochlear or hearing aid while playing, the first time she had ever played without one. Knowing limited sign language, this posed a significant barrier to success, but one that Kaylene was able to conquer.

Kaylene will now travel to the Gold Coast in August where she will play against golfers from around the globe at the 2024 World Deaf Golf Championships.

As the February winner Kaylene received a voucher proudly sponsored by Intersport and is now eligible for the 2024 Community Bank Merbein & District 97.9 Triple M Northern Mallee Sports Star of the Year Awards to be held on Friday February 21, 2025; at the Club Da Vinci, Mildura
