April 2024 Sports Star of the Month Sophie Bowring

Sophie Bowring has been selected as the 2024 Community Bank Merbein & District 97.9 Triple M Northern Mallee Sports Star of the Year for the month of April. Sophie was nominated by the Mildura Roller Derby League Inc.

Sophie Bowring, also known as “Mayhem,” recently significantly impacted the Rainbow Games in New Zealand, proudly representing the Mildura Roller Derby League (MRDL). Held from April 4 to 8, 2024, in Auckland, this event celebrates diversity and inclusivity in sports.

Mayhem lined up with players from the Rockabellas Roller Derby League in SA, and Queensland, forming a powerhouse team. This was also the only team to travel over to the Rainbow Games from Australia. Her incredible performances led them to victory in every game, against some very physical teams. This undefeated run culminated in Mayhem and the team taking home the gold medal.

Congratulations to Mayhem for her outstanding performance on this international stage.
