March 2024 Sports Star of the Month Jarod Waters

Jarod Waters has been selected as the 2024 Community Bank Merbein & District 97.9 Triple M Northern Mallee Sports Star of the Year for the month of March.        Jarod was nominated by the Mildura Speedway Drivers Club Inc.

Waters secured his second consecutive victory in the Speedway Sedans Australia National Modified Sedan Title, following up his 2023 win in Albany with a dominant drive in the 40-lap final at Carrick Speedway in Tasmania. Good form in qualifying with a win and three second-place finishes in the heats put him at the front of the pack for the final. Starting from the front Waters led every lap, surviving multiple restarts to retain the A1 title.

Waters’ front row start allowed him to avoid mid-pack incidents, unlike his previous year’s victory from 15th position. Despite several restarts being forced due to crashes, Waters was able to escape damage and maintain his lead in first position.

Unfamiliar with the Carrick Speedway circuit, Waters and his team adapted quickly, fine-tuning the car’s setup for optimal performance. His Mercedes, which has been in development since COVID lockdowns, stood out amongst the Commodores and Falcons of his competitors. The car’s speed and strategic tyre management, including the risky choice of soft tyres, were crucial to the win.

The Carrick Speedway proved faster than expected, but the team’s hard work paid off. Waters’ consistent performance throughout the weekend made for a convincing victory.
