Mental Health First Aid Training
Thu, 18 May 2017 13:11:00 +1000
Mallee Sports Assembly along with MDAS will be conducting a Mental Health First Aid Course for sporting clubs. The course which is 8 hours in duration gives sporting clubs a better understanding of mental health and hopefully improve relationships within clubs and broader community as well as removing the stigma associated with mental illness.
Participants will learn practical skills:
- To empower sporting clubs to better support people with mental health problems
- To seek appropriate professional help when it is needed
- To give help in a culturally appropriate way
- To support people when professional help is not available
- To help people deal with crises
- To reduce stigma and shame around mental health problems
MDAS will supply all resources books and at the conclusion an on-line test (open book) will be sent to each participant’s email address. Once the test has been completed every participant will receive a certificate.
This course is FREE to attend but you do need to register by contacting Jeanette on 5021 3464 or email jeanette@malleesportsassembly.org.au. Please bring a pen.
This will be our third Mental Health First Aid course to be conducted this year. The first course was held at Merbein Football Netball Club and the second one at the South Mildura Sporting Club. These two courses have been a great success, with participants from cricket, football (AFL and Soccer), baseball clubs, dragon boat and diving . The participants have thoroughly enjoyed and gained knowledge to help deal with any issues that may arise within the sporting club.
This course will be held at the Mildura Workers Bowls Club, Cureton Avenue, Mildura on Wednesday 24 and 31st May from 5.45 - 8.45pm and the final session on June 7th , 2017 5.45 – 7.45pm. The course is conducted in a relaxed friendly atmosphere.
Below is a review comment that I received from a participant in the first session
“I thought the Mental Health course was a fantastic source of information that all people of every race should be aware of.
I am involved with a sporting club. You always need to be aware of others and what is happening around you.
Recommend to have this course to all sporting clubs and groups.”
